If you want to apply for a DoD or Air Force Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) contract you need to know about, and interact with, 5 sites. Each one contains information that you’ll need at different points in your application.
Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) site
This site provides the current SBIR opportunities and has educational resources about the program.
What you need to do here:
- You need to get your Small Business Identification number here, so log in and answer the questions about your company to validate that you qualify for the program.
- You will need to fill out your annual commercialization report
The main DOD SBIR application site
This is the DOD’s main SBIR website with the most up-to-date information on topics and Q&A.
What you need to do here:
- You can ask questions about open SBIR/STTR topics
- You need to create a profile here
- You will upload your proposal
AFWERX
This features all Air Force open topics for a particular cycle.
What you need to do here: Come here to find the technical problems that the Air Force is interested in within the Open Topic
DoD SBIR/STTR Homepage
We're not really sure why this page exists, it feels like it should be part of the main DOD SBIR application site but this is just a great repository of SBIR/STTR knowledge.
What you need to do here: This is the best single source we know of to find proposal instructions for all of the open agencies with open SBIRs
